Thank you for purchasing Sony Creative Software Inc. Sound Forge Pro
10.0. This document contains information
about installing and using Sound Forge Pro on your computer.
Notable fixes/changes in Version 10.0a
- You can now edit samples in musical instrument files. Select the sample you want to edit, and then choose Edit > Event > Edit to open the selected sample in a new data window. After editing, you can save your changes back to the musical instrument file or to a different format.
- Disc-at-once workflow improvements:
- Audio moves with CD tracks when dragging CD tracks with the Edit tool.
- CD tracks move with events when dragging events with the Event tool.
- CD Tracks can now be locked to audio/events using Options > Lock Audio and CD Tracks.
- Added automation support to the élastique Timestretch plug-in.
- You can now edit the Original Tempo setting in the élastique Timestretch plug-in.
- Scrollbars have been added to the Plug-In Chainer.
- When you have data windows maximized, the window title is now italicized during playback to indicate which window is playing.
- Improved AAC file support.
- Fixed a bug that prevented Sound Forge Pro from opening or saving MPEG-4 audio when QuickTime 7.6.4 is installed.
- Fixed a bug that could cause corruption in Broadcast Wave Format metadata.
- Fixed a bug that prevented the waveform from being displayed properly within a smooth fade-in curve when zoomed out.
- Fixed a bug that could cause the élastique Timestretch plug-in to crash on 32-bit PCs that do not support SSE2.
- Fixed a bug that could cause markers to shift after using the iZotope 64-bit SRC plug-in.
- Fixed a bug that prevented read-only project files (*.frg) from opening properly.
- Fixed a bug that could cause Save to truncate tailing silence in certain scenarios.
- Fixed a bug that prevented Mix/Replace from displaying the entire mixed result.
- Fixed a bug that could cause short clicks at the end of certain preview operations.

- Support for processing musical instrument files (.dls, .sf2, .gig).
- The Global media cache setting on the Editing tab of the Preferences dialog allows you to reserve RAM for media recently read from or written to disk.
- Metadata windows.

- Enhanced Broadcast Wave Format (.bwf) support.
- Enhanced window layout management — save, recall, and share custom window layouts.
- Tabbed browsing for maximized data windows.
- iZotope MBIT+ Dither bit-depth conversion and 64-Bit SRC sample rate conversion.

- Custom selection grid lines.
- You can now set default fade types for effects on the Editing tab in the Preferences dialog.
- Copy-protected ATRAC audio files may fail to preview correctly or may open as silence.
- The Windows Media Audio 9 Voice codec is not included with the Windows Media Player 11 update. If you've installed Windows Media Player 11, rendering to Windows Media Audio 9 format will produce an error.

- If recording fails when using the Automatic: MIDI Timecode method, try increasing the MIDI timecode start and MIDI timecode end values on the MIDI Timecode Options tab in the Record dialog.
- The LPEC format limits title metadata to 126 Unicode characters and artist metadata to 14 Unicode characters. Metadata that exceeds these limits will be truncated when rendering to LPEC format.
- When you use Insert Silence function on musical instrument files, you can add silence to the beginning of all selected samples by choosing to insert silence at the start of the file. When you choose to insert silence at the end of the file, silence is inserted to the end of all selected samples.
The following lists the minimum system requirements for using Sony Creative Software Inc. Sound Forge Pro:
- Microsoft® Windows® XP (Service Pack 3 or later), Windows Vista® (Service Pack 2 or later), or Windows 7
- 1 GHz processor
- 350 MB hard-disk space for program installation
- 512 MB RAM
- Windows-compatible sound card
- DVD-ROM drive (for installation from a DVD only)
- Supported CD-Recordable drive (for CD burning only)
- Microsoft DirectX® 9.0c or later
- Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (included on application disc)
The install utility creates any necessary folders and copies all files required by Sound Forge Pro to your computer.
Installing from a Disc
- Place the Sound Forge Pro application disc in the drive. The setup screen
is displayed (if AutoPlay is enabled for your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive).

If you have turned off the drive's AutoPlay
feature, click the Start button and choose Run. Type
D:\setup.exe, where D is the drive letter of your
CD or DVD drive, and follow the on-screen prompts to
complete the installation. |
- Click Install, and then follow the on-screen
prompts to install the appropriate version of Sound Forge Pro for
your computer.
Installing from the Web
- Download the install utility from our Web
site.
- Double-click the file, and then follow the on-screen prompts
to install the appropriate version of Sound Forge Pro for your computer.
6.0 Sound Forge Pro User Manual Installing Adobe Reader
In order to view the manual, you will need to install
the Adobe Reader. It has been included on the application disc in the
\Extras\Adobe Reader folder for your convenience. To
install Acrobat Reader, follow these steps:
- Place the Sound Forge Pro application disc in the drive. AutoPlay
launches an installation menu.

If you have turned off the drive's AutoPlay
feature, click the Start button and choose Run. Type
D:\Extras\Adobe Reader\ to browse to the installation folder. |
- Choose Browse Disc, and then browse to
the D:\Extras\Adobe Reader\ folder.
- Browse to the installer for your language, double-click its icon, and follow
the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
